CIVIS is a European Civic University formed by an alliance of eight leading research-intensive higher education institutions in Europe: Aix-Marseille University, the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, Universitatea din București (University of Bucharest), Université libre de Bruxelles (Free University of Brussels), Universidad Autónoma de Madrid (Autonomous University of Madrid), Sapienza Università di Roma (Sapienza University of Rome), Stockholm University and Eberhard Karls Universität Tübingen (University of Tübingen).

It brings together a community of more than 384,000 students and 55,000 academic and administrative staff, including 30,000 academics and researchers.
